Boy reportedly died after being beaten by his parents in La Guajira – Other Cities – Colombia

A minor of two years, lost his life after spending several days in an Intensive Care Unit, ICU, in the municipality of San Juan del Cesar (La Guajira), after receiving several blows to his head, as well as injuries and bruises in the back and chest, in an apparent case of domestic violence.

The minor, from the township of Papayal, was admitted last April 30 in critical condition to the Nuestra Señora del Pilar Hospital, in Barrancas, with cranioencephalic trauma. So it was necessary to refer him to a more complex center, being transferred to the San Rafael Hospital where he died.

Initially, one of the versions that began to circulate about the minor’s injuries was that he had fallen out of bed, according to what was reported when he entered the care center in the company of his mother and stepfather.

An inhabitant of Papayal, who preferred to omit his name, assures that the mother left the minor abandoned in the care center and returned to the town. When noticing his absence, the biological father of the minor began to inquire and it was when he learned that he was hospitalized. The minor’s parents are two young migrants who settled in the town about two years ago.

The fact was rejected and denounced this Saturday through Twitter by the representative to the Chamber María Cristina Soto, who hails from this population, “We have asked @ViceColombia @mluciaramirez @IcbfColombia @MinjusticiaCo @FiscaliaCol to speed up this case and carry out investigations so that those responsible respond to justice. It is unacceptable and inhumane that this reality occurs in our country. “

This complaint allowed members of the Police and the CTI of the Prosecutor’s Office to act immediately and preventively capture the minor’s mother and stepfather, who must respond to the alleged charges of domestic violence and homicide.

The ICBF ruled on this case

The general director of the Colombian Institute of Family Welfare (ICBF), Lina Arbeláez, spoke about this fact, who lamented the death of the child for alleged mistreatment and noted that the route to locate a 5-year-old sister of age as a provisional protection measure.

“With deep pain I register the death of Emanuel, a boy of only 2 years old who had his dreams cut short. I call on the judicial authorities to act quickly and that those allegedly responsible for this fact be punished with all the rigor of the law”Arbeláez affirmed.

The Barrancas Family Police Station, which by its responsibility was responsible for the child process, carried out the verification of the rights of the sister, opening the Administrative Process for the Restoration of Rights (PARD) and as a provisional measure of protection, the ICBF assigned a spot at a Substitute Home.

The ICBF has opened 2,830 Administrative Rights Restoration Processes (PARD) in favor of children and adolescent victims of child abuse. DOf this total, 15 cases have occurred in the department of La Guajira.
