Most of the people of Cali have complied with the mandatory isolation during the weekend in which Mother’s Day is celebrated, Jimmy Dranguet, undersecretary of Inspection, Surveillance and Municipal Control reported this Sunday.

On Saturday night, 18 appendixes were imposed, a hundred interventions were made to illegal activities, there was a capture and 10 vehicles were immobilized, the Security Secretariat reported.

“The balance of the day is positive and we can give a part of tranquility, although the second day had moles. We will deliver the report to the Mayor of Cali to take it into account when making future decisions,” he added.

Although he did not provide exact figures on social gatherings, he said that controls will continue on the day to ensure that the mandatory quarantine is not violated in Cali. For this task, squads have been appointed to monitor behavior in the city from the early hours of the day.

“We are in El Caney, south of the city. We have identified a couple of parties with high-volume music that were neutralized, making the recommendation to the citizens to comply with the current measures,” he said.

Dranguet says that in northern neighborhoods, such as Alfonso López, La Base and El Troncal, several incidents of public order were recorded. “Parties have been located, stab and firearms have been found,” he explained.

In addition, he said that the eastern part of Cali continues to register meetings in public spaces with alcoholic beverages, despite the dry law.

He recalled that the sanction for non-compliance with the measures decreed to contain the spread of the coronavirus in the city is “a sum total of $ 936,000 that must be paid immediately, because there are legal consequences for those who do not do so.”

Good response from citizens

Carlos Alberto Rojas, Secretary of Municipal Security, also thanked the citizens for their response to the sanitary measures implemented to prevent the Covid-19 cases in Cali from continuing to increase.

He explained that “on a weekend like this, when it is estimated that some eighty thousand meetings can be held, with groups of more than 20 people, we noticed a clear compliance with the measures both on Friday and Saturday.”

And he recalled that in Cali a dry law was decreed until Monday and a curfew in blocks, between 10:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m., every day.

“I would say that 99% of the citizens accepted the call of the authorities in the four ecosystems in which we have organized the municipality. In general, the response has been very positive,” he assured.

150 Municipal Administration officials participated in the nightly controls carried out on Friday and Saturday in Cali.

Rojas reported that some 80 calls were received reporting violation or non-compliance with sanitary measures and confinement, all of which were attended and neutralized with the support of the Metropolitan Police and the Army.

And he explained that the results of this conference will allow actions focused on sectors with special problems because “there are liquor stores that do not like to close or that sell liquor through bars. We also found groups, fortunately small, in public space, but they were not consuming liquor “

Fights decreased 97%

Around noon, the Metropolitan Police reported that it received 1,800 citizen requests on Saturday night, including 230 for fights. The balance was delivered by General Manuel Vázquez, commander of the institution.

“Most of these events occurred inside homes, but it should be noted that we recorded a decrease of 97%, compared to last year,” said the uniformed.
