President Duque and the director of the ICBF assured that children between 0 and 5 years of age are more likely to contract diseases.
In his ‘Action and Prevention’ program, President Iván Duque and ICBF director Lina Arbeláez explained the reasons why children between 0 and 5 years of age will not be able to leave their places of residence next Monday, as They will do those between 6 and 17 years old.
“For us, the fundamental pillar of society is the country’s children and adolescents. We understand that at this time we are between week 22 and 25 of the year and there is a peak in respiratory diseases; but there is also an element that we had in consideration, is that the vaccination cycle of children between one month and 5 years has not ended and this makes them more prone to those respiratory diseases that, at the moment, in the country have high contagion rate ”, said the Director of the ICBF.
He added that in this period of the year about 46% of the UCIS have or receive children who reach these acute respiratory diseases given the peak conditions.
The official made a call to co-responsibility with children between 6 and 17 years old who will be able to leave from next Monday, three days a week for a period of half an hour.
Meanwhile, President Duque indicated that it is not recommended to take children to the supermarket or to places of great affluence.
“Children at these ages are many times vectors of the spread of the virus, that is, it can give them, very surely it will not hit them severely, but the child can later spread the virus at home with loved ones.”
