The seizures occur almost a week after the Nicolás Maduro government said it thwarted two maritime incursions into the coastal states of La Guaira and Aragua, for which it accused the opposition and the governments of Colombia and the United States.

Maduro himself has denounced that the attacks were prepared in three camps located in Colombia, a country that does not recognize the legitimacy of the Chavista leader as president and has repeatedly asked him to leave power.

As evidence of these accusations, the Venezuelan government released videos of the interrogations to two US citizens who participated in the operations, and who claimed to have organized the attacks from camps in Colombia.

Colombia and the United States have already denied taking part in the raids, which left 8 dead and 31 detained, according to the latest report by the Venezuelan Prosecutor’s Office.
