Covid-19: Alert for overflowing tourism in Salento, Quindío – Other Cities – Colombia

Through social networks, dozens of people have called attention to the flexibility in the measures of biosecurity of hundreds of tourists who visit some municipalities of the Quindío What Salento, Filandia and Circasia.

TO Salento and to Cocora Valley thousands of people attended during this Thursday and Good Friday. Even entering the valley, which has wax palms as its main attraction, can take between one and two hours for people traveling in cars.

In the Photographs circulating on social networks, hundreds of tourists crowded in the narrow streets of the urban area of Salento, some without masks and without keeping their distances.

Some people criticized this situation and blamed the authorities for a possible outbreak of COVID-19 in the region.

“That is the fault of the local and departmental authorities. A curfew at midnight for whom. Why not do it on the day, or it is that the money that comes in from tourism is more important than health. They did not allow processions to be held, but they did allow massive influx of tourists ”, claimed a woman through social networks.

Another person commented that “they are making a problem for the parents by sending the boys to school because they are infected there, but if they go to the towns for a walk to those agglomerations, it will be that they are not infected there.”

For her part, the mayor of Salento, Beatriz Diaz Salazar, pointed out that before the massive arrival of tourists ” Although criticism is heard for the municipal government in the face of the apparent absence of restrictive measures, citizens must not forget that the country is making progress in the process of economic recovery and local authorities must also take into account the effects that the pandemic and the confinement left in the local economy, so the good citizen behavior of tourists and visitors”

And he appealed to the tourists “so that they do so responsibly and avoid reaching the town, taking into account the multitude of people who chose the municipality as their destination for rest.”
