In the last 24 hours, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection issued a new report in which the accelerated increase in cases in Magdalena is evidenced, this Friday, April 2, 432 new infections were registered. Which means that, in the first two days of the current month, 1,043 people have been infected with Covid. Similarly, 7 more deaths were reported, for a total of 1,639 people who have died from the virus.
After processing 29,873 PCR tests and 13,528 antigens, health authorities reported 19,222 new cases of coronavirus this Friday, a figure that brings the total number of confirmed infections in Colombia to 2,428,048.
Since March the number of infections in Magdalena has remained above 200 daily infections, the country’s Health portfolio specified that 342 new infections were reported in Santa Marta, while in the Magdalena municipalities there were registered 90 infected.
With this balance, the Magdalena rises to 45,009 who maintain the alerts of the health authorities so as not to lower their guard and continue executing biosafety protocols. The coronavirus does not give truce in Magdalena, it is currently going through a third wave of the pandemic and today the epidemiological reference indicator remains: the speed of contagion.
What is worrying about the situation is that in the Department the ICU beds have an occupation of more than 89%, with serious patients, a threat that may be increased with the increase in mobility and social interactions due to the Easter holidays.
On the other hand, according to the report issued by the health authority, 7 people lost the battle against Covid-19, it also reports that the department reached 1,639 fatalities, after almost a year after the pandemic began in this area of the country .
The new victims occurred in this way: 4 dead in Santa Marta, two men and two women between the ages of 59 and 81; 1 in Ciénaga, a 66-year-old woman; 1 in Nueva Granada, a 76-year-old woman and 1 in Fundación, a 70-year-old woman.
Some of the deceased had comorbidities such as hypertension, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, one of them had received a kidney transplant, others remain under study.
Regarding the active search for asymptomatic and symptomatic patients, there are already 41,472 tests carried out in the city of Santa Marta, of which 39,956 samples have been reported by the National Institute of Health.
Which means that the city is waiting for the National Institute of Health, INS, to deliver 1,516 tests of Covid-19 that it has dammed according to what was explained in the last balance of the Mayor’s Office of Santa Marta.
Health authorities continue to request the community to comply with biosecurity measures such as the use of masks, hand washing, social distancing and avoiding crowds.
