Workers from the Urban Development Institute (IDU), who arrived in the middle of the night to cut down the trees, were surprised when they saw a group of protesters in the area, Caracol Radio reported.
The officials had to request accompaniment from the police to cut down 18 trees located in that part of the city, where a Transmilenio station will be expanded, the station added.
However, 6 of the trees could not be cut down after several young people climbed on them and held on for several hours, added that radio station.
In this regard, the IDU clarified that these trees will eventually be cut down and that some bushes will be relocated in the area to preserve the green areas.
Several of the protesters expressed their disagreement and even took the opportunity to attack Mayor Claudia López, who was reproached for criticizing the cutting down of trees by the old district administration and now doing the same.
“They have walked over it and cut down more than 12 trees without notifying the community. Is this the environmental pact of Claudia López? This is unfair ”, shouted one of the protesters, in dialogue with Noticias Caracol.

Bogotá City Hall goes for more: announces that it will cut down other trees for Transmilenio works
Despite the demonstrations and comments on the networks, the Bogotá Mayor’s Office indicated that there will be 50 trees to be cut down in order to expand the TM.

The Ministry of the Environment, quoted by W Radio, detailed that these 22 trees will be cut down to make extensions in 5 stations of the transport massive city.

- Polo Station (Barrios Unidos): se they will cut down 9 trees for the expansion and construction of a new wagon.
