This is what Álvaro Uribe allowed to see in a statement published this Sunday, in which he lists a series of requests or proposals to be considered by the government of Iván Duque and by different sectors.
One of the most striking proposals has to do with taxing high pensions and high salaries in Colombia.
“High pensions must be taxed and high salaries must pay additional taxes. We know that there are fewer and more controversial taxes, “said former President Uribe in his statement.
His writing, entitled “Let us not allow the poverty of the pandemic to destroy democracy”, is addressed to the Government and the parties that accompany it. One of the main arguments presented by the former senator, who recently benefited from the Prosecutor’s Office for its process of alleged purchase of witnesses, is that Colombia continues with a considerable increase in poverty and it is necessary to duplicate efforts.
“Still 2,400,000 poor households in Colombia do not receive official aid. 57% of poor adults do not receive the benefit of the respective program either. The country is heavily in debt but needs more credit to greatly increase its social coverage ”, emphasizes Álvaro Uribe.
Álvaro Uribe: proposals for the 2021 tax reform
Not to mention the tax reform that the government of Iván Duque enlists, Uribe asks that this credit be achieved through legislation make an effort in taxation.
“That also freeze in real terms the bureaucratic expenses of the State, hopefully for 10 years, with the exception of the General Participation System, health and pensions,” the former president details.
He also insists that today it is necessary that the patrimonial tax on individuals be kept at a moderate rate, and that, for one occasion, “a higher tax on high net worth, even if it is paid in installments.”
“In 2022 that tax allowed to pay the soldiers of Colombia and to initiate the Democratic Security. Today there is an imperative of Homeland and Democracy, pay it to overcome poverty and strengthen the social fabric of the Nation ”, proposes Álvaro Uribe.
The former president also makes a call because, he says, the term is running out and it is necessary that the Government and the parties that support him reach a consensus for such legislation and for employment to be reactivated.
This is the trill that the former president published with his proposals to overcome poverty:
Let’s not allow the poverty of the pandemic to destroy democracy
To the Government that we support and to the parties that accompany it
