The United States on Friday declassified an explosive intelligence report that reveals that the crown prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohamed bin Salman, authorized to “capture or kill” Jamal Khashoggi, a US-based journalist whose death sparked outrage.

Who was Khashoggi?

The Saudi Government initially denied any responsibility for the murder of Khashoggi, but later claimed that the journalist was accidentally killed by agents seeking to extradite him.
The official version of Saudi Arabia is that those agents, closely linked to Prince Bin Salman, acted on their own and that the ruler was not involved.
In Saudi Arabia, eight individuals were convicted of Khashoggi’s death and five of them were sentenced to death.
