The woman, whose statement was released by El Tiempo and who was identified by that medium as Patricia —without her real name—, said how the hours prior to the death of Ana María Castro passed.

Patricia is the one who was captured on video from a security camera insisting that the victim not get in the black Kia Sportage that Paul Naranjo was driving, and which also included Julián Ortegón and Mateo Reyes, the last to see her alive.

The night of March 4, 2020 at around 7:00 p.m. was the first time that Patricia saw Ana María that night in the Zona 116 bar, north of Bogotá. They talked for about 15 minutes and then sat at different tables.

Ana María was accompanied, among others, by Mateo Reyes, who becomes the protagonist of Patricia’s testimony, which shows how the young woman’s uneasiness began over her friend’s situation:

“Concerned about the way in which Ana María was left alone second by second, she asked him to stay at her table. ‘She listens to me for about 10 minutes and then goes back to the boys’ table.’

Hours later they lost track and around 11:00 at night they chatted and commented that each one was in a bar, different from where they had initially seen each other. After midnight, Patricia heard from Ana María again, when she asked for help because she had no money.

So the story continues, where another of those involved already appears:

“Inside me I thought: she must be very drunk because she in sound mind never writes badly. I then told him to come to Cantina Bar but he told me to go out for it. I went down to the street and she was with Paul Naranjo. At that time I didn’t know who he was. “

They were finally in the same place again and Patricia gave Ana María a fruit salt with lemon to lower the effect of so much liquor that she had consumed that night., while the same three men were still close to Ana María.

“I didn’t realize what time Mateo arrived but there he was”, Patricia adds in her statement. She had a plan to go to a different place that night and asked Ana María to go with her “because she was very drunk”, but he did not convince her:

“He told me that he was going to drink to the house of some of his friends: Paul Naranjo, Mateo Reyes and Julián Ortegón. I insisted many times but I did not achieve anything “.

However, Patricia did not give up at that time and went after Ana María. That moment in the parking lot was recorded and it is the video that is known.

The images show how a woman argues to prevent Ana María from getting into the truck, already around the dawn of March 5, 2020, hours before losing his life. Patricia remembered that moment:

“I remember a lot that Mateo argued with me when I told him and Julián that how they were going to take Ana María in that state. Julian just laughed and told me to calm down, but Mateo did fight me”.

Furthermore, according to the young woman’s account, Mateo forced the victim to go with them: “My insistence was so great that Mateo took her by the arm and put her in the car. She made me look like she didn’t know what to do: whether to stay with them or go with me. […] I told him: ‘If something happens to Ana María, you are responsible.’

The form ends the story telling that Patricia is sure that Ana María had her cell phone in her hand when she got into the vehicle, a device that is lost today and that the family considers key to demonstrate that it was a femicide.

The next day, Patricia tried to communicate with Ana María but was unsuccessful. With whom she did speak was precisely with Mateo, who declared how the young woman was fatally injured, but that around noon he contacted her to ask if she knew anything about the young woman, who by that time had already died: “He began to ask me about Ana María. Also that they had suffered an accident and did not know about her.

Today’s witness says that the young man, about whom they want to determine if he sold drugs, wrote about his girlfriend’s profile, and that they had a long conversation that he will hand over to the authorities.
