The Board of Directors of EL TIEMPO Casa Editorial appointed journalist Andrés Mompotes Lemos as general director of EL TIEMPO, who for 12 years had been serving as deputy director of information.
Mompotes replaces Roberto Pombo, who announced the retirement of EL TIEMPO on January 31 and who has held the position of CEO since 2009.

The following is the statement from EL TIEMPO:
The Board of Directors of EL TIEMPO Casa Editorial (ETCE), in its meeting held this morning, has unanimously decided and communicates that it has appointed as its new General Director to the experienced journalist Andrés Mompotes Lemos, who until now had been the deputy director of information for EL TIEMPO.
Born in Popayán, Mompotes is a social communicator and journalist from the Universidad del Valle and a master’s degree in Political Science from the Universidad Javeriana. In 1993 he was one of the first graduates of the School of Journalism, created at that time by the newspaper. Andrés Mompotes has always been a man of this House.
In his 27-year career at the newspaper, he has been a correspondent in Cali, a journalist for the Nation and Politics sections, a regional editor in the capital of Valle, a Justice editor, Editor-in-Chief and Editor-in-Chief before becoming Deputy Director. Among others, he has been distinguished with the scholarship of the Simón Bolívar Prize for Young Journalism and with the national prize of the Bogotá Journalists Circle (CPB) in the press category.
His appointment as General Director ensures the continuity of the path outlined in these years and guarantees a planned generational changeover without surprises. Under his leadership, a team that mixes experience and youth will lead ETCE with skill, responsibility and creativity to conquer the new challenges of journalism.
Congratulations to Andrés for his designation that honors this House. Intelligence, thoughtfulness, and innate decency outline his leadership style. He has the unconditional support of the directors, as well as the entire ETCE team, who respect and appreciate him, and will contribute his efforts to continue maintaining EL TIEMPO as the most important news outlet in the country, a symbol of democracy and the seriousness in the information.
