The authorities managed to capture alias “Cucho”, head of the GCDO “Aguas Frías” in the middle of a rescue operation of a lawyer who was kidnapped in Medellín.
It was an operation of the National Police through GAULA units of the Anti-kidnapping and Anti-Extortion Directorate, with the support of the National Army and the Security Secretariat of the municipality of Medellín and in coordination with the Attorney General’s Office.
Thanks to the timely complaint through line 165 of the Police GAULA, the authorities managed to fully capture the organized common criminal group known as ‘Aguas Frías’ and rescue the 39-year-old man who had been kidnapped.
Submachine guns, pistols, grenades and suppliers were found in the operation
Alias ”Cucho”
Through intelligence and criminal investigation, the location and capture of aliases ‘Cucho’ or ‘Juan Diego’ was achieved in a building in the Belén Aguas Frías neighborhood in the city of Medellín.
Alias ’Cucho’, has a current arrest warrant for the crimes of conspiracy to commit aggravated crimes, for the purpose of extortion, homicides, forced displacement, arms and narcotics trafficking.
This 39-year-old criminal, by 2005, would have demobilized from the defunct Heroes of Granada Bloc of the United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia (AUC), he would be responsible for organizing observation and security points for drug and weapon storage places.
Being the alleged perpetrator and participant in the forced displacement between 2014 and 2016 of four families from the Altavista district of the municipality of Medellín. After the capture of alias “Cuscas” in 2016, alias ‘Cucho o Juan Diego’ established himself as the main leader of the GDCO ‘Aguas Frías’.
He was also responsible for the attack against GAULA officials of the Police in Medellín in 2018, in the Belén Aguas Frías sector, where two soldiers from the institution were injured. When ‘Cucho’ was captured, he was wearing a bulletproof vest to protect himself from armed attacks in the area.
In the operation, four other members who were at the site were captured. Those captured are:
‘Jaime’ who has a history of aggravated theft, qualified and illegal possession in 2009. Alias ’Mosquera’. Alias ’Froilano’ with a criminal record for illegally carrying firearms and alias “Sebas”.
The criminals had in their possession at the time of the captures a mini Uzi submachine gun, three 9 mm caliber pistols, two fragmentation grenades, a sound suppressor (silencer), 7 9mm cal suppliers and a bulletproof vest.
The rescue
The operation achieved the freedom of a young lawyer, who had been kidnapped on February 12, when he was attending a supposed meeting to accept legal representation.
Later, at dawn on February 13, the criminals contact the victim’s girlfriend demanding the sum of 100 million pesos in exchange for the citizen’s freedom.
The units attached to the GAULA of the Police guaranteed the freedom of the lawyer, who was found tied up, gagged and locked in a bathroom of the building, later he was taken to a medical assistance center to verify his state of health, which is in optimal condition .
