Yacsi Álvarez Mirabal accuses the government of Iván Duque and the Venezuelan opposition of planning the overthrow of Nicolás Maduro. This plan – frustrated in May 2020 – was called Operation Gideon.

Also known as alias ‘Álex’, this Venezuelan engineer and businesswoman was a director of the Venoco lubricants firm in Panama and since 2012 she lived in Spain.

The Venezuelan government had never spoken of Yacsy, only named her to publicly reveal the operation as alias ‘Álex’, without showing her face, while she made arrests of military and civilians allegedly linked to the so-called Gideon operation.

Among those captured was Yacsy’s mother, Jacinta Mirabal. She was released days later.

To travel to Colombia, alias ‘Álex’ used the plane of the Venezuelan businessman Franklin Durán, the same one who was arrested in 2008 in Argentina with a briefcase that had 800 thousand dollars that apparently will serve to finance the campaign of Cristina Fernández de Kirchner.

After Noticias Caracol exclusively revealed the testimony of Yacsy Álvarez, detained by the Colombian Police, the Venezuelan government released a statement in English dated June 26, 2020 through the state channel VTV.

In her, The woman involves the government of Iván Duque and leaders related to Juan Guaidó with an alleged coup against Nicolás Maduro.

The operation was denounced in the International Criminal Court by human rights organizations. The former politician Wilmer Azuaje presented a report in The Hague that maintains that those killed in Gideon were executed and did not fall after a confrontation.

Another connection of ‘Álex’ is Captain Antonio José Sequea Torres, who was arrested in the framework of the operation in Venezuela. He is said to be one of Diosdado Cabello’s trusted men and the right hand of the former director of military intelligence known as ‘el Pollo’ Carvajal.
