Paul Naranjo, the man who was driving the black Kia truck from which witnesses saw Ana María Castro fall violently at dawn on March 5, 2020, is being sought by the authorities.

His trusted lawyer announced – through Citytv – that he was going to make himself available to the authorities no later than Wednesday. But at press time, it had not been presented.

'I did not kill Ana María Castro, I am innocent'

Paul Naranjo Calvo told EL TIEMPO that he is innocent and that when he said goodbye to Ana María Castro, she was fine.

And those close to Ana María believe that after a judge sent her friend Julián Valente Ortegón Mosquera to jail as the alleged co-perpetrator of the aggravated femicide, it is unlikely that Paul will come forward voluntarily.

In fact, although his lawyer said that they were going to face justice and that he is a good citizen, offering a reward for information on his whereabouts is not ruled out.

Julian Ortegon

Julián Ortegón, accused of aggravated femicide, did not accept the charges.

“They say that his appearance changed, that they saw him get into a taxi and until he turned off his cell phone,” one of the investigators told EL TIEMPO.

And those close to Ana María added that if Paul has nothing to fear, they do not understand why he has not been present despite the announcement of his trusted attorney.

Concealment of evidence?

At the hearing to impose an assurance measure against his friend Julián Ortegón, testimonies and evidence were revealed that complicate the judicial fate of Paul Naranjo.

Mónica Caputo, the guarantee control judge who sent Ortegón to jail, said that he would have acted in solidarity with his friend Paul and that he would eventually be responsible for the femicide, as a co-author.

Wensy López, attorney

Wendy López, a lawyer for Ana María’s family, requested the security measure and supported her with strong evidence.

Ortegón’s defense described the case as mediatic and immediately appealed the decision. He added that the testimonies against his client are contradictory, that he is not a danger to society and that he has stood up to justice.

In addition, as revealed by EL TIEMPO, José Ramón, the guard of the group where Julián Ortegón Mosquera lives, gave a relevant piece of information.

When the Prosecutor’s Office took him for an interview on March 19, 2020 and asked him if he had anything else to add, he gave a key piece of information.

She pointed out that after Julián arrived with a companion, who was driving (Paul), he would have told him: “There was her cell phone.”

For the Prosecutor’s Office, and for the lawyer Wendy López, defense of Ana María’s family, it is clear that it was the victim’s cell phone.

That not only explains why Ana María was registered as ‘NN’ when she arrived at the hospital, with injuries that caused her brain death.

‘Rag doll’

It would also show that there was concealment of evidentiary material by Julian and Paul.

“In Ana María’s cell phone, not only her last calls were registered, but also key messages about her links with those involved,” the lawyer López said at the hearing on the security measure.

In addition, the girlfriend of one of those investigated stated that he told her that he had the cell phone of ‘Nana’, referring to the victim, and she replied that she did not want to know anything about that ‘p …’.

Death of Ana María Castro

CTI agents arrived at the scene to reconstruct what happened.

And there are other testimonies that confuse them.

As revealed by EL TIEMPO, there is already a witness (Daniel Vega) who claims to have seen how the 21-year-old had been thrown from a black car like “a rag doll” and, when she arrived, she was in a pool of blood .
