Balloon that hit plane in El Dorado arrived from Antioquia

According to the investigation carried out by experts from the Civil Aeronautics, it was established that the balloon that hit an Avianca plane on December 31, It was launched from somewhere in the Aburrá Valley.

The aircraft with passengers came from Orlando, and when the pilot was preparing to carry out the approach maneuver to the runway at the El Dorado airport in Bogotá, the wings and one of the engines became entangled in the device.

Through a statement, Aerocivil reiterated “its warning to the community in general to refrain from throwing balloons or other uncontrolled and unauthorized devices, as they put air safety at risk ”.

Fortunately, there were no injured people in this event. Avianca clarified that despite the shock, the flight was never declared an emergency.

On the other hand, the attempt to raise a wick balloon in a neighborhood of Bello in Antioquia, generated moments of panic during the New Year’s celebration.

A video recorded the moment in which an artifact, which they were trying to remove from a narrow street, was trapped in a house and in a few seconds the pyrotechnic elements began to detonate that he carried inside him.

Although the artifacts were expected to detonate only when the balloon was in the air, the maneuver got out of control and the explosions occurred a few meters from the spectators.

According to the risk management department of Medellín, five of the 12 emergencies attended by the agenciesRelief events between the night of December 31 and the early hours of 2021, were generated by wick balloons.
