Valle surpassed 140 thousand cases of covid-19 this Sunday

In Valle del Cauca, 590 new cases of covid-19 were registered this Sunday, which raised the total number to 140,303 infections since the arrival of the virus in the region.

With respect to the deaths, the Ministry of Health indicated that they occurred in Cali (10) and in one case in Jamundí, Palmira, Obando, Florida, Tuluá and Restrepo.

Thus, the general balance of deaths from the new coronavirus in the department is already 4342.

It should be mentioned that according to María Cristina Lesmes, Secretary of Departmental Health, this Sunday is the day with the highest number of patients with covid-19 in intensive care units, ICU, since the pandemic began.

“Today, January 3, 2021 is the day with the highest number of Covid 19 patients in the ICU, during the 10 months of the pandemic. 599 people today are fighting for life accompanied by the medical corps. In addition, the official assured the Government of Valle del Cauca allocated $ 4,400 million for the purchase of medicines that are needed to open at least 84 ICU beds in Cali.

These supplies will make it possible to reduce the occupation of the ICUs, which currently stands at 90% in Valle del Cauca.

The arrival of sedatives and relaxants is positive, he stressed, taking into account that “the first two weeks of January will be critical, as we think we are going to have the largest number of patients.”

Throughout Valle del Cauca there are 114 ICUs disabled due to shortages of medicines or failure of mechanical ventilators.

More than 1.6 million cases in Colombia

In Colombia, the number of people who have been infected with the new coronavirus reached 1,675,820, after the 9,412 new cases that were confirmed through the 33,977 tests (26,621 PCR and 7,356 antigens) that were carried out this Sunday.

The most infected regions were Bogotá (2959), Antioquia (2275), Valle (590), Risaralda (478), Cundinamarca (388) and Caldas (322).

According to the report of the Ministry of Health, of the total of cases, 85,039 cases are active, while 1,542,353 have managed to overcome the disease.

As for the deaths, the epidemiological bulletin reports 200 deaths, of which 183 belong to previous days. With this report, the country already registers 43,965 deaths due to the virus.

According to the WHO, the world has 84,959,695 people infected with the new coronavirus.
