Mayor Jorge Iván Ospina reported on Monday that in the last few hours a van carrying Venezuelan migrants from northern Cauca was discovered and detained, and his office, apparently, had been coordinated by authorities in that region.

With a publication on Twitter, he made the complaint and announced that he will take action before the Attorney General’s Office because he affirms that these people did not submit to health protocols. He noted that “irresponsible” action was taken and that foreigners were treated as “cattle”.

Later, at night, he explained that there were minors among the migrants and that the identification of the vehicle was achieved in the middle of the sanitary checkpoint installed by the Cali Mayor’s Office on the border with Cauca.

“In the sanitary checkpoint installed on the El Hormiguero bridge, a van was identified where 18 Venezuelan citizens, including men, women and children, were traveling,” the president explained.

He added that the vehicle was “filled in a neighboring municipality for its transfer to Cali.”

“I think that all kinds of rights were violated: those of the migrant population, who should not be transported in a van, as well as those of the citizens of Cali, who must be guaranteed that people from other regions comply with the screening established toilet, “he emphasized.

The Mayor of Cali highlighted that “no city can ignore its problems and simply transfer them to another. What we have to do is build agreements and solutions.”
