With just a few days to go until 2020, in the municipality of Repelón, Atlántico, on the north coast of Colombia, news was released that has caused a stir and indignation in the country. Hundreds of inhabitants of that municipality agreed to forcibly enter a farm that, according to versions of inhabitants of the area, it was uninhabited, since its owner had supposedly been apprehended by the authorities.

The loot they were going for was more than particular, it was 25 thousand chickens, valued at 600 million Colombian pesos, about 180 thousand dollars, that were alone and without surveillance.

According to local media, for several days, hundreds, even thousands of people, entered the property and they took all the birds. Some of the animals did not resist the attack and defended themselves to the death. The chickens that the criminals could not take were scattered on the floor of the chicken coop and the farm, as evidence of the pitched battle that had been fought there between the thieves themselves.

This was demonstrated by one of the farm workers in a video that he sent to his boss, an Argentine businessman, telling him how the place had been after the unprecedented robbery:

Darío Raggio, of Argentine nationality and representative of the company that acquired the farm known as Guayepo- located at kilometer 3 of the road that connects Repelón with Villa Rosa, south of the Atlantic-, has already told several Colombian media that the rumors of his capture were false, that his workers could not face the mob of thieves and that, now, he is leaving the country because of the millionaire loss and even some threats.

The businessman told the Barranquilla newspaper El Heraldo that the robbery would have started on December 23, when workers contacted him to inform him of the crowd that was entering his property, and it would have ended on December 28.

The businessman does not explain how they could afford five consecutive days of assault and why the authorities did not show up despite the complaints. Raggio assured the regional media: “I was not on the farm, but Since 23, the workers contacted me and I tried to communicate with the Police, but from one side they sent me to another, while people savagely took the chickens and destroyed everything in their path ”.

In this regard, it was the Colonel Fredy Patiño the person in charge of reporting the facts. “The residents affirmed that the workers had reported that the owner had been apprehended or that he was imprisoned and that the farm had no owner. Thus, the people and locals of the municipality of Repelón and neighbors of Villa Rosa, where the farm is located, entered the facilities and began to take the chickens ”.

Colonel Patiño added that the robbery was facilitated to the inhabitants because the chickens “were wandering around the property and it was easier for the locals to appropriate that property.”

Raggio, on the other hand, assured El Heraldo that when he saw the impotence and fear of his workers, he told them to let the robbery take place, even when one of them had a regulation weapon for his use, and that he hid from threats of the invaders. “They carried a ‘poplar’ and other people arrived with macheletes and weapons threatening the workers. I told them to let the hens take away to avoid a tragedy. “

According to the local newspaper El Nuevo Día, Darío Raggio insisted on the call to the authorities: “we called the Police on countless occasions and sent several messages to the commander that corresponded to us in the municipality of Repelón. We also called others, where we have other farms, but they told us that they did not have jurisdiction and that unfortunately they could not act, that they did not have any kind of right to act ”and He recognized the work of some policemen who arrived at the scene, but who could not avoid the thousands of people either.

Beyond the rage for the millionaire loss, In the words of the Argentine businessman, the disappointment with the situation and the insecurity he now feels is evident. The Argentine businessman confessed to El Heraldo that “the losses are unimaginable. My partner is in the United States and does not want to come to Colombia ”.

In an interview with the radio station La FM, Raggio added that His relatives and partners are asking him to leave Colombia completely, to leave with everything and his company, a request to which he has already agreed.

In the middle of Barranquilla, the Argentine assured: “They left us with a millionaire loss and we no longer want to continue investing our money in this country. We are leaving Colombia “. In addition, he explained to them that this is also because he no longer feels safe, because the invaders left him a message with his employees, they were told “That they were going to ‘break’ the Argentine if he appeared on the farm.”

On the other hand, the authorities are advancing in the investigations to find those responsible and hold them accountable for the millionaire robbery, for which Raggio and his partners have already filed a lawsuit.
