The coronavirus pandemic has mourned the families of the more than 40 thousand fatalities that the disease has left in Colombia. Every day, hundreds of people are dying from the virus and Colombians must face the deaths of their loved ones by moving forward and giving their version to the other inhabitants of the country so that they continue to take care of themselves and not be irresponsible.
That was the case with Carlos Adolfo Méndez, a citizen reporter from Cucuteño that, through Facebook, transmits live the latest news of the city for regional media such as Noticias Cúcuta 75 and BNC Noticiero. The man was in that task on December 30, in front of the San José de Cúcuta Clinic. Méndez informed the Cucuteños of the death of doctor Édgar Salgar Villamizar, recognized in the capital of Norte de Santander, who could not defeat the covid-19.
However, along with the death of Dr. Salgar, the citizen reporter had to report on another death that had just occurred in the same clinic. It was about the nurse Alba Victoria Leguizamón Bermúdez, ‘Vicky’, who for several days had been fighting the coronavirus and was the wife of the reporter Méndez. Information that he released in full live broadcast.
“Nurse Alba Victoria Leguizamón Bermúdez has just passed away on the seventh floor. He was for a few days fighting the coronavirus. She was the mother of my son, unfortunately she lost her life. From my son Jesús David Méndez “, were the words of Carlos Méndez.
The reporter added: “More than 12 days ago I was fighting the covid, the nurse. Our son’s mother left us “Furthermore, he said that Leguizamón dedicated 33 years of his life to being a nurse at the San José de Cúcuta Clinic.
Today my wife passes away, tomorrow we do not know whose turn it is. It’s sad to see that people don’t believe that this exists.
This was the moment when Carlos Méndez learned of the death of his wife in full transmission:
Méndez continued broadcasting for another half hour, “you have to be strong when your loved ones leave, as in my case.” He added that he was in the clinic waiting to see his wife for a moment, but her family would not allow him.
However, Méndez said he was happy because he knew that his son had been able to see the nurse minutes before he died. The reporter took the opportunity to ask citizens to stay home on December 31: “I don’t know what we are celebrating. It will be those people who do not believe that this exists ”.
On the other hand, the reporter announced that Dr. Salgar, who died minutes before his wife, was well known in Cúcuta for saving citizens from the virus.
Among those who share these testimonies is Carlos Méndez himself, a citizen reporter. Méndez implied that he suffered from covid-19 twice and that, on the second occasion, it was Salgar who treated him and cured him of the disease.
Several citizens and colleagues have expressed solidarity with Méndez in the face of the loss of his wife. Julieth Cano, a reporter from Cúcuta for Noticias Caracol, wanted to share Méndez’s case with Colombians at the national level.
Given the diffusion that Cano promoted, reporter Carlos Méndez made a new video giving more recommendations and thanking the messages of affection he received for the death of his wife and mother of his son.
“The San José de Cúcuta Clinic is in mourning, Nurse Alba Victoria Leguizamón Bermúdez, our son’s mother, left. Today we had a funeral with great sadness the nurses and the health center workers fired the nurse”Said Méndez in another video.
Don’t let it happen to you, we are losing our loved ones. In 2021 we do not trust ourselves.
In the last hours, in Norte de Santander 274 new cases and 12 deaths from covid-19 were reported.
