The United Kingdom had already officially left the club of 27 on January 31, but with the entry of 2021, it has been separated from the EU at the end of the transition period.

The free trade agreement sealed between the two parties on December 24, after nine months of negotiations, ensures that the United Kingdom can “trade and cooperate” with the 27 members of the EU “in the closest terms of friendship and goodwill”.

The first ferries

The first ferries from the United Kingdom arrived in Ireland on Friday subject to the new trade rules that have prevailed since this Friday, after the Brexit transition period has expired.
