A police operation that was intended to enforce quarantine in a sector of the eastern part of the city ended in a riot in which two people were injured and a 21-year-old man lost his life.
The incident occurred on the afternoon of this Sunday, in the Brisas del Limonar neighborhood. As detailed by Brigadier General Manuel Vásquez, commander of the Cali Metropolitan Police, a police patrol found a group of people chatting on the street, in breach of the mandatory preventive isolation measure decreed by President Iván Duque.
“The procedure triggers a riot against the police officers, resulting in two injuries. But also a 21-year-old man hit with a firearm, who unfortunately dies as a result of the injuries. At the moment, he is the Technical Investigation Corps. from the Prosecutor’s Office, who is making progress in the judicial investigation, but also from the institution, we have organized an interdisciplinary team to be in charge of fully clarifying this fact, “said the Commander.
Despite the Dry Law determined by Mayor Jorge Iván Ospina for this weekend, the authorities deactivated around 40 parties in various sectors of the city and imposed 32 appearances, according to the Secretary of Security and Justice, Carlos Alberto Rojas.
