The Ministry of Mines and Energy of Colombia established, on the afternoon of December 31, the prices that will govern gasoline as of January 1: the cost of a gallon of fuel will go up $ 109 in the thirteen main cities of the country, reaching an average value of $ 8,127. Similarly, diesel sees an increase of $ 125 to reach $ 8,149.
The portfolio also indicated, through a statement, that these prices apply even “in the event of a modification of the percentage of mixture with fuel alcohol or biofuel for use in diesel engines.”
The same document also explains that, “prices will rise due to the increase that has been occurring in the international indicators for gasoline and diesel during the month of November and December”. This, above all, in the last two weeks, when diesel experienced an appreciation of 29 and 18 percent, compared to the indicators of October and November, respectively.
The same happens with gasoline, that for the same periods saw a growth of 16 and 17 percent. From this perspective, the prices of gasoline and diesel, discriminated in that order and by city, are as follows:
Bogotá $ 8,447 and $ 8,365
Medellin $ 8,382 and $ 8,372
Cali $ 8,463 and $ 8,477
Barranquilla $ 8,139 and $ 8,085
Cartagena $ 8,102 and $ 8,054
Hunting $ 8,352 and $ 8,304
Bucaramanga $ 8,233 and $ 8,145
Villavicencio $ 8,547 and $ 8,465
Pereira $ 8,409 and 8,425
Manizales $ 8,428 and 8,415
Ibagué $ 8,383 and $ 8,354
Pasture $ 7,091 and $ 7,648
Cúcuta $ 6,680 and 8,828
It is the second time in less than a month that the National Government decrees an increase in fuel prices. I had already made it at $ 99, last December 16, just before the registered growths that serve as an argument to justify the new amount.
The current decision also comes after gasoline registered the lowest figure since May 2017, when the value was $ 8,156 on average, reported the Ministry of Mines. “While the price of diesel closes 2020 as the lowest since May 2018, when it was, on average, at $ 8,082 per gallon,” they added.
In a brief balance of what happened to the resource this year, the energy portfolio also recalled that the price of gasoline has been stable for the last eight months, even registering decreases during the months of March and October, with slight increases in July and December. In the case of diesel, stability was maintained for nine months, with falls in March and July.
But the rise in gasoline is not the only one that begins to change the budgets of Colombian drivers as of tomorrow. So will the SOAT and the comparendos —in Bogotá—, which had adjustments according to the accident rate that occurred throughout 2020 and the new UVT, respectively.
In that order of ideas, compulsory insurance saw a reduction of 0.98 percent, so its value is in the order of 8.77 current legal minimum daily wages. For its part, the capital fines experience an increase of 1.97 percent Thus, for example, traveling through restricted sites or at times prohibited by the competent authority (Pico y Placa) costs a total of $ 447,700, in addition to immobilizing the vehicle.
