Ruiz made that statement in the ‘Prevention and Action’ program, after the first case of the new strain of coronavirus was confirmed in South America.
The Health Minister wanted to give a message of reassurance saying that the new strain of COVID-19, detected in the United Kingdom a few days ago, is not more lethal and that the virus has already had more than 1,000 mutations.
Warned that in Colombia there are already “several strains circulating”And, although the one that was detected in Europe has not yet arrived – which would be between 50% and 70% more contagious – it is “very likely” that it will appear.
“So far all the studies are negative, but obviously, we will get [la nueva cepa del coronavirus]. […] That invites us to maintain and continue to strengthen our measures, ”said Ruiz, as heard below:

Due to the new strain, Colombia took measures such as restricting flights to and from England.
However, many travelers can make stops in other countries, such as Spain, and land in the country, which also no longer requires negative COVID-19 test to enter.
