14,940 new cases: the highest number since Covid arrived in Colombia

Colombia set this Thursday, for the second day in a row, a new record of infections by coronavirus when reporting other 14,940 infections, bringing the total number of positives to 1,559,766.

This is the highest number of infections reported in a single day in the country since last March, when the first case was confirmed, and It is the fifth record reached only in December.

The country’s Ministry of Health reported in addition to other 280 deaths from Covid-19, of which 244 occurred in previous days, bringing the number of fatalities to 41,454.

High infections and deaths

The highest number of infections today was registered in Bogotá, which had 4,748, followed by the departments of Antioquia (1,966), Valle del Cauca (1,156), Atlantic (923), Cundinamarca (812) and Tolima (652).

Bolívar (665), Santander (556), Caldas (471), Meta (337), Risaralda (332), Norte de Santander (319) and Boyacá (318) also had high figures.

The regions most affected by the pandemic continue to be Bogotá (443,602), Antioquia (250,617), Valle del Cauca (130,202), Atlantic (89,729), Santander (63,843) and Cundinamarca (63,302).

Of the total confirmed cases, 96,783 are still active, that is to say 6.2%, while 1,417,316 have been reported as recovered, which corresponds to 90.87%.

The deaths registered on this day were in Bogotá (58), Norte de Santander (33), Antioquia (27), Tolima (22), Santander (20), Valle del Cauca (19), Cundinamarca (18) and Atlantic (11).

The rest of the cases were in Caldas (10); Risaralda (8); Huila and Nariño (7); Quindío (6); Bolívar and Meta (5); Magdalena (4); Boyacá, Casanare, Cauca and Cesar (3); Caquetá, La Guajira and Putumayo (2), and Arauca and Sucre (1).

This Thursday 74,280 samples were processed, 45,434 of PCR type and 28,846 of antigens, for a total of 7.75 million tests performed.
