Despite the criticism generated by the determination of the National government to exclude the Venezuelan population from the vaccination program “in an irregular condition”, one of the most vulnerable and exposed sectors of society, President Iván Duque remains immovable in his decision .

“When making any announcement that in Colombia any migrant who is in Colombian territory will be vaccinated, regardless of whether or not their migratory situation has been found, which can generate is a migratory pressure that can lead to the collapse of health services“Said the president in the Prevention and Action program.

The head of state added: “This exercise to analyze the dissemination of vaccination is carried out on the universe of the Colombian population, which is about 51 million 400 compatriots. We have a migrant population that is already regularized, but there is a population whose situation does not result from which there is no information and that is why it has been established that this sector is not prioritized on that scale ”.

In turn, the Minister of Health Fernando Ruiz clarified that the foreign resident population is identified within the Ministry’s databases and has the right to the same health coverage as any Colombian, in the case of the Venezuelan population they are around 800 thousand peoples.

“There is another population that is the transitory migrant, who are very difficult to locate. It is practically impossible to follow up from the health services”Added the minister.
