The textile businessman José “Pepe” Douer, died yesterday at the age of 95 in the city of Bogotá, as confirmed by the Colombian Chamber of Apparel and Related Products in a statement.

Douer, who was born in Mexico, founded the textile company Manufacturas Eliot SAS in Barranquilla in 1957, whose commercial flag is the Patprimo brand. Although he started the company when he was just 17 years old, his growing expansion led him to move to Bogotá three years later.

But the story with Barranquilla does not stop there alone. Douer arrived in the capital of the Atlantic because his father Alberto Douer had settled there and after several attempts to start a business, he established the Adotex textile brand before having to go to Los Angeles, United States, for health reasons.

In the absence of his father, José was left in charge of the family business from which Manufacturas Eliot (Patprimo) emerged, which is currently the leading company in the textile sector in Colombia, according to the Superintendency of Companies. During 2019, it recorded earnings of $ 6,474 million.

Currently, the textile company employs more than 8,000 direct and indirect people. The brand has more than 100 stores nationwide.

According to Andi, Douer was characterized by promoting “many activities of a social nature aimed especially at women heads of household, giving priority in generating employment to this sector.”

“He was a man who fully believed in the national industry and in the country’s workforce, establishing himself as a flagship in the textile-clothing sector,” wrote the Colombian Chamber of Clothing and Related Products in a document.

Douer was also a participant in the founding of media such as Channel 1 and CM &.
