Defense Ministry denounces contracts concluded by the Army

The Ministry of Defense filed complaints to find those responsible for alleged irregularities in the hiring carried out by the Army’s Administrative and Accounting Centers (Cenac) in four areas of the country.

In a statement, the Defense ministry indicated that the process began thanks to the investigations carried out by its Office of Internal Control.

On April 25, the Ministry of Defense made the first decisions regarding these investigations that have been going on for almost a month.

“After knowing the preliminary report of the Office of Internal Control on contracting for the acquisition of protection elements in the Public Force, in the framework of the emergency by covid-19, the Ministry of Defense, through its Directorate of Legal Affairs, filed a complaint in the investigation of those responsible for alleged irregularities in the hiring carried out by the Administrative and Accounting Centrals (Cenac) of the National Army in Antioquia, Tunja, Cúcuta and Usaquén. The foregoing without prejudice to the investigations that the Military Criminal Justice initiates within the scope of its competence, ”the communication reads.

The note added that the Ministry of National Defense has increased the controls prior to the conclusion of the contracts on the occasion of the manifest urgency, in such a way that, before signing them, the need for each spending authority is justified and compliance is approved of the legal requirements by the Logistics and Expenditure Efficiency Committee of the Ministry of Defense.

“The Ministry of Defense reaffirms its commitment to legality and transparency in the management of public resources, as well as its willingness to collaborate with control entities in the development of these investigations,” the message concluded.
