And they added: “Infinite thanks, Mr. Alfredo Hoyos Mazuera, for making Risaralda a pioneering department in entrepreneurship and showing our best image to the world. “
According to local media, the businessman was fighting an acute illness at the age of 75.
Alfredo Hoyos received the award for life and work at the recent Portafolio awards ceremony, where they recognized his contribution to the country.
“With extensive humanistic training, inspired by his mother, Fantina Mazuera, and an ability for business, learned from his father, Alfredo Hoyos Mejía, considered a pioneer of the Colombian poultry sector, Alfredo Hoyos Mazuera has built a solid brand beloved by Colombians “, described in Portfolio.
Your business
In 1973 he sold his stake in a company he owned and in Pimpollo, and in 1977 he married Liliana Restrepo.
A few months before, a pizzeria called Frisby opened in Pereira, causing a great sensation in that city, which was unaware of the flagship dish of fast food. People, with humor, called her ‘the flying arepa’.
To give variety to the menu, he introduced breaded chicken, which with the passage of time displaced pizza, with an original recipe that keeps its promise more alive than ever: “Nobody does it like Frisby does.”
Thus was born this chain that, 43 years later, has more than 256 stores in 60 municipalities of the country.
Sectors mourn the death
The different actors of the city have lamented the death of this businessman on their social networks.
One of them is the mayor of Pereira, Carlos Maya, who assured that the Pereira flag covered the businessman’s coffin: “Today one of the greatest Pereirans of all time, Don Alfredo Hoyos Mazuera, a man of whom all we are proud. To his wife, his children, family, friends and collaborators, my hug of condolence. The flag of our city will cover his coffin, “he said on his Twitter account.

Victoria Echeverrri, director of Fenalco Risaralda, indicated that this businessman leaves a legacy for the department and the country.
“For Fenalco Risaralda leaves a very great legacy, an example to follow, a special being with whom I had the fortune to share very closely. We feel very sad and we are moved,” he said.
Councilor Jaime Duque García also regretted the fact. “I want to thank God for the fortune of having put people like Don Alfredo Hoyos in the path of so many Pereirans; thank God because, through this great man, you motivated, taught and demonstrated that you can get ahead with effort and dedication, and better yet, with a higher purpose. A hug for his family and a prayer for Don Alfredo, “he wrote on his Facebook.
