Colombia reports 8,702 new cases of covid-19: deaths decreased slightly, this Sunday, December 13

The Ministry of Health and Social Protection reported that, this Sunday, December 13, 8,702 new cases of coronavirus in Colombia.

This is thanks to the processing, during the last 24 hours, of 40,153 tests of which 30,616 are PCR and 9,507 are antigens.

The report also indicates that the death toll is 187. In this way, the country ends the working week with a total of 39,053 dead since the virus reached the national territory.

When conglomerating all the figures, it is noted that Colombia reached 1,425,774 infected, of which 67,873 are active cases and 1,314,836 correspond to positive cases that have already overcome the disease.

Total, there are 2,176 conglomerates throughout the national territory. The regions are: Amazonas, Antioquia, Arauca, Atlántico, Barranquilla, Bogotá, Boyacá, Bolívar, Caldas, Caquetá, Cartagena, Casanare, Cauca, Cesar, Chocó, Córdoba, Cundinamarca, Huila, La Guajira, Magdalena, Meta, Nariño, North from Santander, Putumayo, Quindío, Risaralda, San Andrés, Santa Marta, Santander, Sucre, Tolima, Valle, Vaupés, Vichada, Guaviare and Guainía.

As usual, Bogotá (2,504) and Antioquia (1,551) continue to be the territories that lead in terms of COVID-19 infections by cities and departments of the country.

During the special session of the Directing Council of the Pan American Health Organization, the countries of the Americas region reviewed the preparation for COVAX and equitable access to vaccines, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection reported in a statement.

Like all representatives of the almost 50 member countries, the head of said portfolio, Fernando Ruiz Gómez, who also chairs the Directing Council of the Organization, presented the main challenges facing Colombia in responding to the pandemic and your vaccine considerations.

It was also recognized the important contribution of the COVAX mechanism to achieve equitable access and the need for the region to play an active role in the mechanism to guarantee the best conditions for member countries.

PAHO assured that will continue to fight for the best possible accesse, establishing a commitment with the countries to, to the best extent, achieve greater access for a greater number of the population.

The draft resolution presented establishes the urge member countries to advance national preparedness plans to introduce the vaccine against covid-19, as well as equitable access and participation in the COVAX mechanism advocating principles of solidarity, affordable prices and sustainable access.

Regarding the latter, the joint and joint purchase to have access to a better price on the part of the member states that participate in the Revolving Fund, “to face special circumstances and guarantee access to the vaccine.”

“A pandemic requires exceptional measures and PAHO’s Revolving Fund is ready to respond”, Said Ruiz Gómez at the close of the session and affirming that the positions and the debate of the member countries were taken into account.
