Proposals to increase the 2021 minimum wage for Colombia are already on the table.
Some members of the business union suggested an increase of 2%, which is equivalent to $ 17,556 Colombian pesos. If this proposal were executed, next year the value of the minimum wage would be around 895,363 pesos and if the estimated transportation subsidy (104,911 pesos) is added, the amount would be 1,000,547 pesos.
That amount is far from meeting the demand of the unions, as they demand an increase of 13%, that is, a salary of one million pesos plus a transportation subsidy of 120,000 pesos.

Of the 20 Latin American countries, the minimum wage in Colombia is ranked 11th.
The range of salaries in Latin America is very varied since the highest value is 520 dollars (1,785,000 pesos), while the lowest is 1 dollar (3 thousand pesos). The best salary in the region is for employees in Costa Rica, while the lowest corresponds to Venezuela.

In second place is Chile with a total of 420 dollars (1,440,000 pesos), while Ecuador with 400 dollars (1,371,000 pesos), and Guatemala, with 384 dollars (1,318,000 pesos), are located in the third and fourth place respectively.
Two dollars below Guatemala, and ranking fifth, is Uruguay (1,311,000 pesos). Paraguay follows with $ 312 (1,072,000 pesos), then Bolivia with $ 308 (1,057,000) and Honduras appears in eighth place with 278 (954,000 pesos).

Panama and Peru are above Colombia in the list.
The ninth place is occupied by Panama with 268 dollars (920,000 pesos) and in the tenth position is Peru with 259 dollars (889,000 pesos).
Colombia’s current salary is 256 dollars (877,800 pesos), which is why the country was ranked number 11, above Argentina, which has a minimum salary of 235 dollars (806,000 pesos), and El Salvador with 203 dollars (696,000 pesos).
Brazil and Mexico are in positions 14 and 15. The first with 194 dollars (666,000 pesos) and the second with 187 dollars (642,000 pesos).

The negotiation sessions cited by the Permanent Commission for the Agreement on Salary and Labor Policies they do not yet result in an agreement that meets the requirements of both parties. Thus, it is most likely that the Government will be in charge of setting the value of the minimum wage by means of a decree.
