The events occurred last Friday around 7:50 p.m. when the couple was in a house in the Vistamar neighborhood, in Puerto Colombia (Atlántico), and El Heraldo reported that two men who were mobilizing on motorcycles entered to attack shots to the couple.
The media said that Daniela Berdugo Rivera was shot two times, one of them in the head with an exit in the neck, and that she was transferred to the Portoazul Clinic.
There, the doctors confirmed the death of the young woman, although after an emergency surgery they managed to save the baby of about six months of gestation.
The victim’s partner, identified as Joel José Angulo Sandoval, was hit in the neck and the newspaper learned that he is being treated at the same health center.
The Heraldo collected information according to which “the woman was a witness in a process by the Attorney General’s Office against the criminal gang ‘Clan del Golfo'”, and refers to the statement of “a relative” of the young woman to say that, she allegedly requested “protection, but it had not been provided”.

General Ricardo Alarcón, commander of the Barranquilla Metropolitan Police, said that this hit man attack “was against women,” according to statements published by Zona Cero.
“The first information we have is that it is about retaliation as a result of drug trafficking. In previous days we carried out an operation against a stronghold of the ‘Clan del Golfo’ in Puerto Colombia, and everything seems to indicate that there is a relationship between the death of this woman and the operation ”, confirmed General Alarcón.
The officer was asked if he was aware that the young woman had requested protection for being a “key witness” of the Prosecutor’s Office in that process, and the response of the Chief of Police was that “there is information that, unfortunately, is reserved.”
General Alarcón announced that the authorities are investigating what happened in this case, and that investigators are following the trail of the hit men to try to identify them.
Even so, the two media insist that the woman had been left unprotected and at the mercy of the criminal group.
