Óscar Andrés Basabe Díaz, the man captured by the police and accused of being the driver of the car in which three thieves had planned to escape after robbing a person on a pedestrian bridge in Bogotá, is free.
Basabe Díaz is the man who was captured by police agents after having transported three assailants who tried to rob a doctor, at the end of January of this year and who They died after the doctor, in an act of legitimate defense, shot at the three people.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, Basabe was captured around midnight on January 31, and was detained after the uniformed officers found that the vehicle in which he was transported reported a robbery complaint on December 28, 2019.

He was charged with the crime of reception and according to court records, he was released due to expiration of terms. Inpec sources confirmed that he was at home from jail and that on October 15 a judge issued a release ticket.
After being arrested, the man acknowledged to the authorities that he was committing a crime in a gang dedicated to theft and gave details of the moments prior to the attempted robbery of the doctor whom a judge, at the request of the Prosecutor’s Office, closed the process for the death of three people.
His criminal process is in the preparatory stage for trial. In addition, Basabe Díaz had another pending process in court for the same offense of reception.

In addition to his freedom, the defendant reached an agreement with the Prosecutor’s Office and the victim of another case, for which reason he would no longer be prosecuted.
On December 1, the Prosecutor’s Office requested a hearing to legalize a principle of opportunity before the 51st municipal criminal court. The hearing could not be held due to the inability to communicate with the prosecutor in the case and a new summons is pending.
Sources from the Prosecutor’s Office indicated that this benefit was given taking into account that it was agreed that it will compensate the victim of the case of reception of a motorcycle, in events other than those of the doctor.
Once the judge endorses the benefit, the defendant will no longer continue to be investigated for that specific case. And he would only have the trial for the doctor’s case, of which he pleaded not guilty.
