The President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, regained control of Parliament this Sunday, five years after losing it, after the victory of Chavismo in legislative elections boycotted by almost all the opposition and marked by a high abstention of 69 percent and a strong international rejection.

After 1:30 am on December 7, with 82.35 percent of the transmission of votes, the Venezuelan National Electoral Council (CNE) released a first bulletin of the results of the parliamentary elections this Sunday.
According to the president of the CNE, Indira Alfonzo, the participation was 31 percent. Earlier, the opposition had spoken of a lower turnout, around 18 percent.

Of the little more than 5 million votes that were cast, According to the CNE bulletin, 67.6 percent went to the Gran Polo Patriótico – coalition of parties that support the Bolivarian revolution.-, and the others for other parties, including those of the minority opposition. The majority opposition – led by Juan Guaidó – did not participate in this process, considering it fraudulent.

Alfonzo assured that, by the time the bulletin was issued, 81 of the nominal positions had a stable trend and, therefore, there was no possibility of change.
The same was true of 26 of the 48 positions on the national award list.
In this last group He highlighted the names of winners such as the number two of Chavismo, Diosdado Cabello; the wife of the questioned Venezuelan president, Cilia Flores; former minister Iris Varela and others.
For the minority sectors of the “opposition” he mentioned Bernabé Gutiérrez and José Brito, among others. Although Alfonzo did not mention Nicolás Maduro Guerra, in his speech after the results, the Venezuelan president assured that they had “razed” La Guaira, a state in which alias ‘Nicolasito’ had been launched.

“Happy early mornings of victory,” Maduro said in a contact with Cabello, through the state channel, immediately after the results were released.
“Great victory for democracy, a good election day (…) May the people sleep peacefully, we have a new National Assembly at the service of the majority, “he added.
