The director of the Police, General Óscar Atehortúa, confirmed this Sunday the kidnapping of the Spanish citizen Jesús Quintana García, who works in Colombia as director from the Palmira headquarters of the International Center for Tropical Agriculture, CIAT.
According to known information, the man would have been intercepted by armed men in the middle of an illegal checkpoint.
This person, due to his foreign origin, called the attention of this criminal organization, therefore, it is known that they are trying to make an economic demand
said the officer.
The Minister of Defense, Carlos Holmes Trujillo, made a strong call to the kidnappers to free this agronomist.
“Let him be released as soon as possible, he is an international civil servant with diplomatic status who directs a tropical agriculture center that it is a pride for our country”He added Trujillo.
CIAT is an organization dedicated to research in order to improve agricultural productivity and natural resource management and, its main headquarters are located in Palmira, Valle del Cauca.
