Since the night of December 5, the senator of the republic Feliciano Valencia denounced a massacre in the municipality of Santander de Quilichao, as did Jorge Eliécer Sánchez, one of the leaders of the Cauca Regional Indigenous Council (CRIC); both spoke of between four and six victims. Well, the authorities announced that the massacre was perpetrated as a result of a confrontation between the community and two hitmen.

The crime was perpetrated in a commercial establishment in the municipality, at night: the pair of murderers entered to shoot one of the victims, which is why the witnesses to what happened confronted the gunmen, according to Mauricio Capaz, from the Association of Indigenous Councils of Northern Cauca (Acin).

Two of those attacked by the perpetrators died at the scene, while two others died in a hospital; that is, there were four victims.

In the absence of clarifying the reason for what happened, the Secretary of the Government of Cauca, Luis Angulo, made known his concern about the resurgence of violence in the southwestern part of the country: “The situation that has been bleeding the department of Cauca is unfortunate. As the Governor’s Office, we will continue to attend to her as we have done so far and to support the victim families, accompany them in this unfortunate situation “

According to Feliciano Valencia, senator of the republic and former councilor of the Cauca Regional Indigenous Council (CRIC), in the municipality of Santander de Quilichao a massacre was perpetrated on Saturday night, which, at dawn this Sunday, had left a balance of four indigenous people murdered. Regarding the crime denounced by the senator, Jorge Eliecer Sánchez, one of the leaders of the CRIC, denounced that six indigenous people were massacred, of which three were community members of the Munchique los Tigres reservation in said municipality. “It is not possible that our life plans are at risk every day and the war wants to break them,” he said.

One of the victims of the act of violence was Carlos Escue, who served as a local youth coordinator for the Munchique Reservation and, before his murder, was part of the musical group Intentos de Amor. The identities of the other deceased are still known.

The massacre in Santander de Quilichao was reported hours after the murder of Eduardo Julicue, 31, in Caloto was announced.; He was the son of the former councilor of the Association of Indigenous Cabildos del Norte de Cauca (ACIN), Luz Eida Julicue.
