The new Attorney General of the Nation, Margarita Cabello, has not officially assumed office and already has to avoid lawsuits who seek to leave it outside the Public Ministry.

This Friday it was learned that the Council of State admitted a lawsuit seeking the nullity of the election made by the Congress of the Republic of Cabello as head of the Attorney General’s Office, but did not accept to immediately remove her from office.

The court stated that It is not the procedural moment to suspend the election of Cabello and that the proceedings against the act that elected her will continue in that corporation.

According to RCN Radio, the plaintiff maintains that Cabello Blanco would be “ineligible since she was included in the list by the President of the Republic, due to the fact that in the previous year she served as Minister of Justice and Law.”

Also, that due “To the characteristics of the position and functions of the Attorney General of the Nation” the person who is elected to the position “has the same qualities as the magistrates of the Constitutional Court and therefore the same prohibitions apply, as they cannot be elected in the position who in the previous year have served as ministers of the office “.

Margarita Leonor White Hair, A native of Barranquilla and an ally of the government of Iván Duque, she was nominated for the position by President Iván Duque himself.

With 83 positive votes, Cabello was chosen as head of the control body that oversees, among others, the Government itself. Although the regulations allow the nomination of a candidate by the Executive, in recent years the Senate had always voted against the candidates proposed by the ruling party for the position.

“I have the responsibility to do it well, to get it right, so that more women reach positions of responsibility in the country”said Cabello after being voted as Attorney General.

And he added: “I understand this support as a recognition of my professional life, who has been responsible and always at the service of justice. I understand it as an exaltation of the women of Colombia ”.
