Uribe thanked the speaker Senator Honorio Henríquez and the senators who accompanied this initiative of the Democratic Center.
This project aims to give workers more time to share with their families, develop personal activities or continue their studies. This is not intended to affect salary.
Honorio Henríquez, co-author and speaker of the project, classified the approval of this initiative as good news for workers, since, for example, the average hours worked in OECD countries is 36.8 hours per week.
RCN Radio highlighted that Senator Ruby Chagüi, co-author of the proposal, pointed out that “this is essential to advance in correcting social imbalances. With this initiative, Colombian workers will be able to dedicate more time to their family, to rest, to cultivate intellectually, but without their remuneration being affected. By reducing the working day without affecting the family economy of our workers, we harmonize the Colombian legislation with all the provisions of Agreement 47 and recommendation 116 of the International Labor Organization. ”
After the Senate’s decision was known, Bruce Mac Master, president of the National Association of Businessmen of Colombia (Andi), published through his Twitter account that he did not agree with the initiative due to the impact it could have on the labor market.
“The change in the working day is going in the totally opposite direction to what it should. Job creation is becoming more expensive, competitiveness is being affected. It is unfortunate that this has not been taken into account in the Senate today. The responsibility we have is great” , highlighted the union leader.
