Sergio Fajardo, virtual candidate for the presidency, spoke on Thursday afternoon before the process of fiscal responsibility for failures in the planning and execution of the Hidroituango project initiated by the General Comptroller’s Office of the Nation.

I have always responded for our performances and will continue to do so
Today, the Comptroller General of the Republic announced that it is linking a group of people and organizations to the investigation into what happened with the Hidroituango project. The Comptroller’s Office is doing what it has to do, investigate. And I will continue doing what I have always done, answer for each and every one of my actions. On this subject I gave a free version a few months ago and today I give an explanation, which I will extend to the Comptroller’s Office and to all those interested:
1. Why do you link me? The Comptroller’s Office links me to the investigation to explain the control and monitoring carried out to the people that I delegated to the board of directors of Hidroeléctrica Ituango during my administration in the department of Antioquia between the years 2012-2015.
2. How do we participate in the Hidroituango project? Several officials of our government participated in the board of directors of Hidroeléctrica Ituango, taking into account their training, trajectory, experience and honesty. That team made the best possible decisions based on the information provided to the Hidroituango board.
To control and monitor the delegated function, we held periodic meetings to discuss and analyze the work schedule and financial costs. In these meetings, we did not review technical construction decisions because they corresponded exclusively to EPM.
3. What work did the Board of Hidroituango do? Since 2011 EPM has assumed the construction, maintenance and operation contract (BOOMT) of the Ituango Hydroelectric. Based on this decision, the Board of Directors of Hidroeléctrica Ituango exercised exclusive supervision, surveillance and control of the work schedule and financial costs of the aforementioned contract. The board did not make technical construction decisions as that was up to EPM, who has been in charge of technical decisions and their implementation.
Four. Conclusion. We have always responded for our performances and we will continue to do so. I have participated in public life defending that transparency should be the basis of a political transformation.
