In the middle of a press conference that the mayor of Barranquilla, Jaime Pumarejo, called yesterday, he announced the measures and recommendations for the end of the year festivities. In short: this is not the time for big parties, but rather to be family.

The foregoing is due to the permanence of the covid-19 in the city, whose cases have increased in the last week, but according to the district president, the figures are “predictable and correspond to the sectors where we knew we were going to have and are within the projections of the government team ”.
Taking into account that the indicators “are not worrisome”, the mayor indicated that he will not take restrictive measures. However, behavior is monitored of the citizens, the controls of the commercial establishments and the contagion rate.
What Jaime Pumarejo did emphasize is that if today’s panorama changes, measures will be evaluated. In that sense, the president recalled that meetings and the consumption of liquor in public places are still prohibited and that from the District, in the hands of the Metropolitan Police, strict control of parties, capacity and biosecurity measures will be reinforced.
Similarly, He insisted that the hand washing formula, more social distancing, more use of the mask on the nose and mouth is the best vaccine and show of solidarity with the Barranquilleros.

In addition, he made some recommendations that invite citizens to responsible self-care during these special dates of the end of the year:
- In case of holding meetings, these should not be more than 10 people from the family group or who live in the same house. In social encounters the greatest infections are occurring.
- Responsibly, ask your guests if they have any symptoms or if they were in contact with someone who had them before.
- If possible, these meetings should be held in ventilated spaces or outdoors, either on the patio, on the terrace, or on the balcony.
- Stay out of crowds. If you see them, stand back and report them to the authorities.
- If you are going to celebrate with friends, it is better to do it in virtual spaces.

Finally, The mayor extended an invitation to all Barranquilleros: “Take care of children, the elderly and your relatives with any comorbidity. Ask yourself if they are worth exposing.
