With total dismay, Uruguayan coach Alfredo Arias referred to Deportivo Cali’s painful elimination from the South American Cup when they fell 5-1 against Velez in the second leg of the quarterfinals.
The sugar producers lost the series 7-1 on aggregate and left a poor image in their farewell to the international tournament.
“We made a lot of mistakes, we made bad decisions, we despaired before a team that played very well. Everything is my responsibility, until now I had not experienced something like this,” Arias commented at the press conference after the match this Tuesday night.
“We played four defining games in a very few days and surely that took its toll on us. That emotionally affects a lot and today we pay many things that are not from the game itself,” said the DT from Charrúa.
A complicated week for Cali after being eliminated from the Colombian League and now from the South American.
“Until a week and a half ago we were wise, beautiful and good and after these results we will surely be donkeys, we will be ugly and bad and that is what we have to take and accept,” said the coach.
Cali must now wait until December 30 to seek to qualify for the South American Cup again when it disputes the quota with the winner of the Liguilla that is disputed with the squads that were eliminated from the League finals.
