Supreme Court orders the capture of Senator Eduardo Pulgar and the U party suspends his membership

By order of the Supreme Court of Justice, Senator Eduardo Pulgar Daza of the La U party was captured at the El Dorado Airport when he tried to leave the country. The crimes for which he is accused are bribery, influence peddling and crimes against democratic participation.

In a statement issued by the high court, the “Special Investigation Chamber, based on article 330 of Law 600 informs (…) it imposed a measure of assurance of preventive detention in a prison for the senator of the Republic, Eduardo Enrique Pulgar Daza, for the alleged commission of the crime of influence peddling in a homogeneous competition ”.

For its part, the U party suspended Pulgar’s membership after the news of his arrest at El Dorado Airport, reported the director of the community, Dilian Francisca Toro, in an interview with La FM.

The senator was recorded offering a judge “200 bars” to apparently favor some of his friends in a business, El Tiempo reported.

Pulgar appeared in October before the Investigation Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice on the occasion of an investigation in the process that is being brought against him for alleged bribery of the former judge of Usiacurí, Atlántico, Andrés Fernando Rodríguez Caez.

The session, which lasted one hour, was attended by the gauge with his attorney, Jaime Granados, known for defending former President Álvaro Uribe in the case of alleged procedural fraud against him.

Therefore, in 2018, The Prosecutor’s Office charged executives of these entities for conspiracy to commit a crime, procedural fraud, ideological falsification in a private document and obtaining a false public document. Among the accused is Luis Fernando Acosta Osío, for whom, allegedly, Pulgar served as an intermediary.
