They criticize mayor Claudia López for a massive event in Ciudad Bolívar

On the night of this Sunday, the mayor of Bogotá, Claudia López, inaugurated the Christmas lighting of the capital from the Ilimaní park, in the town of Ciudad Bolívar.

The president visited the Paraíso neighborhood, in the south of the city, in the company of the local mayor, Ricardo Antonio Rodríguez Cárdenas, not only to turn on Christmas lights but to announce the cultural agenda for the holiday season.

“In all the towns of Bogotá there will be more than 2,000 artistic and cultural presentations, 650 artists and 200 producers and cultural managers. We are going to have tours of the localities, we are going to have the Seventh Christmas and on December 7 they will be able to join us in the Environmental Hub ”, he said.

However, in social networks the mayor has been criticized after the dissemination of images of the event in Ciudad Bolívar, since she was seen in the midst of people who did not keep physical distance and, in several cases, did not even wear face masks.

Upon arrival at the Ilimaní park, López was surrounded by dozens of people, in what became a massive event called by the District, when the city registers more than 375,000 cases of covid-19.

It is worth remembering that last September the Mayor’s Office of Bogotá issued Decree 207 of 2020, defining several of the measures for economic and social reactivation in the city.

Said law indicates that “in the development of activities outside the home, people must maintain a distance of two meters between them, in order to prevent and mitigate the risk of contagion by covid-19.”

In addition, the decree establishes that “the use of face masks that covers the nose and mouth will be mandatory for all people when they are away from home, regardless of the activity or work they perform,” which according to the images published by the mayor’s office itself , it is not fulfilled in all cases.

It is striking that District officials lead mass events after strong criticism from the mayor of days such as the Day without VAT and operations to avoid crowds in shops and businesses during those dates.

It is worth remembering that at the beginning of November Claudia López said that Bogotá was not facing a second wave of coronavirus infections, attributing that success to the “enormous effort of care that all of Bogotá has made for the use of the mask, the distancing and the washing of hands that we’ve maintained”.

“There has been a work of control street by street, neighborhood by neighborhood with those over 60; all EPS are coordinated. It is because of all that set of care measures that we have been doing in Bogotá that we are not suffering from a second wave of covid, we must not lower our guard, “said the president at the time, who this Monday is the target of criticism.
