Tomas Uribe Moreno, son of former President Álvaro Uribe, is emerging as one of the candidates for the presidential elections representing Uribe. That his name is on the rattle shows the crisis of representation and leadership that the Democratic Center apparently faces today.
While the country is going through a catastrophe due to the devastation caused by Hurricane Iota, it is seeing how the number of victims of floods and landslides as a result of the winter increases, and faces, among other issues, the economic crisis, the massacres against social leaders, the second peak of the pandemic, the increase in femicide and, more recently, a taxi strike; In addition, one of the country’s leading magazines decided to publish on its most recent cover, perhaps ignoring the national situation, the photo of Tomás Uribe Moreno, waking up all Colombians with an apparent piece of news that seemed more like a tragicomedy or a black humor joke politician.
There it was very sneakily hinted – for a good understanding few words – that the eldest son of former president Álvaro Uribe Vélez would possibly be the one anointed to be the champion of version 3.0 of the Democratic Center to the next presidential elections of 2022. Although the insinuating cover did not surprise To the supporters, fervent and candid militants of this political party, the position of this group did draw attention, which, apparently, would not look at all with bad eyes that the eldest son of its main leader is chosen to carry the flags of the uribismo in the next electoral contest.
What reasons would the Democratic Center have for wanting to nominate, at least between the lines, the eldest descendant of its current leader? Initially, it is evident and quite unfortunate that politics, understood as the action of managing resources, that is, the noble art of government, and whose maximum expression is materialized through the figure of the Presidency of the Republic of Colombia, today by today it has been consolidated as the perfect and natural setting destined for the prolongation of the existence of those who at some point acceded to said popularly elected position.
In national political history, with few exceptions, the best known as “dolphins” have not displayed their surname, especially when they have had to venture into political affairs; However, the rapturous effect caused towards the power that is generated and inherited in the children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and choznos of all the country’s former presidents is well known, since each of them, directly or indirectly, seen benefited and enjoy a number of perks for the simple fact of being their descendants.
Faced with said “covert evening”, but an effective declaration, it is evident that dolphinism continues to prevail in a country where surname is valued more than merit. It is unusual and implausible to believe that, among all the members and political representatives who profess unconditional and unrestricted love for the Uribe party, or rather, for its boss, they have not been able to find a single representative worthy of carrying the flags of the community. How are all those passionate militants who are found throughout the national geography feeling?
It is undeniable that many of them have academic training, experience, political baggage, years and years of fervent devotion to their guide and leader, a large electoral body, and they are eagerly awaiting a chance of promotion in the ranks of the party, and where Faced with such a declaration, all his aspirations were reduced to only dreams of a summer night.
Failure to find valid a single candidate who is worthy of representing them in the next presidential elections and they have to be “forced” to resort in extremis to the figure of the eldest son of his caudillo to embody and try to revive the diminished uribismo, he demonstrated inadvertently wanting that the Democratic Center is going through a crisis of very deep representation and leadership, because he stated in a forceful way that, regardless of the aspirations , trajectory, contacts, capacities, abilities or their position within the party will never be taken into account to be “presidential” and only the one who bears the blood and surname of its founder is valid as a successor.
