The massive use in Colombia of the Zoom platform, for virtual meetings in times of pandemic; and several incidents in private, academic and even congressional sessions led the Superintendency of Industry and Commerce (SIC) to take substantive measures.
The entity has just ordered it to immediately raise its information security standards for its millions of users in the country. It is estimated that, in just last April, there were 17 million meetings through this platform.

“Although Zoom has taken steps to improve its security levels of the
information, according to a recent pronouncement by the Federal Trade Commission of the United States (FTC) – US counterpart of the SIC -, some shortcomings still exist. “, assures the Superintendency.

For this reason, it has just issued an administrative order of a preventive nature to guarantee the principle and duty of security.

Peremptory term
Zoom must comply with what is ordered by the SIC within a period of four
months, for which it must present a certification issued by an entity – national or foreign -, independent, impartial, professional and specialized in information security issues.

And the SIC recalls that, as a consequence of the covid-19 pandemic, the vast majority of citizens have increased the use of technological applications as a means of communication for academic, professional and personal purposes.
