President Iván Duque responded, and bluntly, to the affirmations of former paramilitary chief Salvatore Mancuso, who said that the president “is afraid of the truth, he rips his clothes hypocritically demanding the truth, but prevents the reconstruction of it and therefore their undue and illegal interference in the autonomy and independence of justice ”.
This to the extent that ehe head of state has been persistent that the extradited paramilitaries cannot go to the Special Jurisdiction for Peace (JEP).
Given what Mancuso said on W Radio, Duque said that this Monday “a criminal against humanity, a bandit,” belonging to the more so-called United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia, came out to say that here we fear the truth.
“No, we are not really afraid of it, the truth is needed, but don’t try to play those little games from under the table now to try to be linked to the JEP so that they enjoy any type of prison sanction and on the other hand enjoy the benefit of non-extradition“said the head of state.
He added that none of these paramilitary chiefs has the grounds to enter the JEP and recalled that they have outstanding debts with the Colombian justice for crimes against humanity and for what they have to come and pay for those crimes, because they have been sentenced it is for drug trafficking.
“But the heinous crimes they committed have to come to pay for them here, in Colombian prisons“he insisted.
Duque said that if they are looking for lawyers to serve as a management fop to later reach the Special Jurisdiction for Peace, and in that way avoid justice, “That they are clear that while I am the president of Colombia that will not happen.
