Colombians will be able to make purchases in San Andrés from their homes and without paying taxes

In addition to enjoying the beaches, nightclubs and cultural places that the archipelago of San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Calina has to offer, one of the most important things that tourists think when they are there, is to know what gifts and souvenirs will be taken home. This end of the year, Colombians will be able to purchase these products without leaving home, and without paying taxes.

After the passage of hurricane Iota, the economy of San Andres was severely hit and, therefore, the national government, in order to reactivate it, is preparing a decree so that Colombians can buy, through the internet, products from this area of ​​the Caribbean, without paying customs tax from anywhere in the country.

The measure will have, for the moment, two important restrictions: the first will be that Consumers will not be able to buy more than 10 units of a product, and, second, that those who want to be part of this initiative will only be able to buy once a month in the same establishment.

At the moment, the measure will only be applied to products, however, the government is studying the possibility of providing a series of benefits to the hotel and tourism sector, which is currently another one that has been most affected by the passage of the hurricane.

According to the National Department of Statistics (Dane), commerce and hotels represent more than 50% of the economy of the Archipelago of San Andrés.

Other ways to help the San Andresanos

Different entities, organizations and companies have decided to help the families that were affected in the Archipelago of San Andrés, after the passage of Hurricane Iota. Here we tell you some of them, in which you can make donations that will be sent to this area of ​​the Caribbean.

Those who wish to contribute these items must take them to the facilities of the Food Bank, which is located in the Calle 19 A # 32 – 50, in Bogotá.

The first is donation in kind, where Those who want to bring toiletries, food, clothing, among others, must send them to the Red Cross facilities. The second is through a fundraiser, through the Davivienda checking account number 455-06999-6490.

The elements that the ICBF is receiving are: toiletries, kitchen kits, mats, blankets, new underwear and outerwear for boys and girls, diapers, canned food, thermometers and water.
