The news was released by Jaime Pumarejo, the mayor of Barranquilla on his official Twitter account, where he let it be known that months ago, when the social and health problem caused by Covid-19 was beginning in Colombia, The Colombian artist contacted him to express the learning she had obtained so far with the situation that Spain was experiencing.
Pumarejo tHe also announced that the Barranquillera once again demonstrated the love she has for the land that saw her born, and with love, she looked for a way to help her family even being in another country with his family, making a donation of thousands of masks and various respirators to help those who are in hospitals because of the pandemic.
And as expected, Shakira also supported local and national production, so she hired the masks to a factory in Barranquilla, in order to also contribute a grain of sand to national companies and workers, who have also suffered from the virus.

The 50,000 N-95 masks that Shakira donated will go to the more than 2,500 doctors, nurses and hospital health workers to provide greater protection to the professionals who expose their lives on a daily basis and that of their families in order to save that of the thousands of people infected by the coronavirus.
As part of your donation, Barranquilla will receive 10 ICU respirators, which will be installed in the Adelita de Char University Hospital, which was designated by the mayor of Barranquilla, to be the first line of care for infected patients and requiring intensive care.
