The deaths confirmed by covid-19 in Colombia until week 44 (October 26 to November 1) They numbered 34,686 and the suspects 6,602, for a total of 41,288, According to data presented this Monday by the National Administrative Department of Statistics (Dane) in a new report on the mortality of the pandemic in Colombia.

Juan Daniel Oviedo, director of Dane, explained that the difference between the two classifications is that the first are directly supported by PCR tests, while the suspects take into account clinical and diagnostic criteria that suggest the new coronavirus as a cause of death.

Suspicious deaths, if anything, are under investigation and an inter-institutional committee must make analysis of epidemiological links, field studies and evaluation of the documentation in each case to reclassify it as confirmed or place it in another cause of death.

So far, Oviedo told EL TIEMPO, said investigation and reclassification process remains open and there is still no exact data on how many suspicious deaths have been reconsidered as confirmed or directed to other causes.

It is worth saying that the official figures as of November 1 by the Ministry of Health reported 31,515 deaths (this Sunday, November 22, that source had reported 35,287). However, the statistics presented by Dane are based on information from the National Institute of Health, Sivigila and the Single Registry of Affiliated to the Health System (RUAF) of the Ministry of Health.

Bogotá concentrates 23 percent of confirmed deaths from covid-19

In this sense, the proportion that is evident in the country until November 1 is that for every five deaths confirmed by covid-19 there is a suspect. In week 44, for example, 1,096 deaths were registered with a positive PCR test for new coronavirus and 238 in the group to be investigated. However, the Dane data show an increase in recent weeks in suspicious deaths from covid-19, since 136 were reported in 41 (October 5 to 11).

“Between September 2 and November 1, there were 11,416 confirmed deaths from covid-19 and 1,469 per suspect, with a daily average of 187 and 24, respectively, ”notes the Dane.
