Captured the second named as the murderer of Gustavo Herrera, former manager of the Gustavo Petro campaign

The Attorney General’s Office reported, this Sunday, November 22, that in a joint operation with the Police and the National Army, another alleged participant in the murder of the former candidate for the Popayán Council by the Colombia Humana party, Gustavo, was captured. According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the arrest was made in a raid on a house located in the San José de Popayán neighborhood, in which The arrest warrant for the alleged participant in the murder perpetrated against the manager of the presidential campaign of the leader of the opposition, Gustavo Petro, was enforced.

The authorities indicated that this subject is the second captured for the murder of Herrera Gutiérrez that will be “Presented before a judge of control and guarantees of Popayán for their respective prosecution for the crimes of aggravated homicide and manufacture, trafficking, carrying or possession of firearms, accessories, parts or ammunition”, indicated the fiscal control body in a statement

These events occurred last October 20 on the road that leads from the capital of the capital of the department of Cauca to the municipality of Coconuco, in the village of La Cabrera, where according to investigations by the Cauca Section, the victim who was mobilizing in a vehicle at kilometer 13 with the company of his sister and was attacked by an individual with a firearm.

The Prosecutor’s Office pointed out that in this operation two cell phones, military clothing and a helmet were seized and will be analyzed.

“These results are added to those obtained in four other cases of homicides of leaders of the Colombia Humana political movement committed this year, such as that of the environmental leader Alejandro Llinás, in Santa Marta (Magdalena); that of the leader Campo Elías Galindo, Medellín (Antioquia); and those of Jhonatan Borja Pérez and Iván Giraldo Fúquene, citizen overseers and political leaders of the municipality of Candelaria (Valle del Cauca) ”, assured the fiscal body.

He was part of Gustavo Petro’s Colombia Humana movement and was the manager of the senator’s presidential campaign in 2018. In addition to being a political leader, he was a lawyer, psychologist and owner of the company Agregados Terra, dedicated to the extraction of construction materials in the capital of Cauca.

According to Herrera’s family, the businessman was dedicated to working with the peasant and student communities of Popayán.

So far in 2020, seven members of the Colombia Humana party have been assassinated, four of them during October.
