Massacre: victims of armed attack in Algeria Cauca – Cali – Colombia identified

Inhabitants of the El Mango village in Algeria, southern Cauca remain in fear after a string of deaths. Despite that, on Saturday night they were chatting in different commercial establishments in that town, until armed men broke into these places, shooting at those who were there.

Brigadier General Marco Vinicio Mayorga Niño, commander of the Third Division, explained that four people They died at the scene, while another died while being helped.

The victims were identified as Faber Joaquí Hoyos, Arlex Daniel Salamanca, Dannover Santiago López, Eraldo Ruiz Salazar and Libio Chilito, a recognized social leader.

Regarding the latter, it was known that he is the prosecutor of the Community Action Board of said district, who had promoted an activity to collect resources and give gifts to children at Christmas.

As for the other victims, it was known that three of them worked on a construction site for a school in that sector.

The attack also injured two people: Yanio Fabián Muñoz Samboní and Elkin Fernando Rengifo Zambrano, who were referred to the San José de Popayán university hospital.

Jhonnatan Patiño Cerón, mayor of that town, He explained that apparently, the events took place in a billiards, a disco and a bar.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that a person approached a pool table and shot three people against humanity, one of whom died, then moved to a nearby nightclub and shot two people who later died and then went to a bar and he shoots at two other people who die ”, said the local president through a statement.

Likewise, he pointed out that there is still no hypothesis about what happened.

“We categorically reject all the violent acts that occur in our municipality of Algeria and we stand in solidarity with the families and communities that are experiencing the consequences of a war that nobody wants and the pain of the departure of their loved ones, “he added.

Luis Cornelio Angulo, Cauca government secretary, indicated that in that area there is a presence of dissidents from the Farc, column ‘Carlos Patiño’ and the ELN.

“We reject all that expression of violence, intolerance and therefore our effort to end these criminal structures that only threaten the integrity of Caucans and Caucans. We continue working to defend life,” said the official.

The Prosecutor’s Office, for its part, reported a person captured in a place close to the scene of the events.

On November 9, another armed attack occurred in the urban area of ​​that town that left two citizens dead and another three seriously injured. Days later, the death of one of the injured, a minor under 15 years old, was reported.

According to the Institute for the Study of Development and Peace (Indepaz), there are already 12 massacres in that department so far this year and 76 throughout the country.

Likewise, these massacres have left 43 dead in that department.
